Investing Internationally

Making an initial international investment in the early 1980s, Notre Dame was one of the first U.S. endowments to implement an international equities program, and in the early 1990s became one of the first to invest in emerging market equities. Although many of Notre Dame’s managers invest globally, we recognize the value of managers that specialize regionally. Regional portfolios include mandates in Western Europe, Japan, Brazil, China, India, ASEAN countries and Africa.

The international weighting is anticipated to grow further in the coming years as we continue to identify attractive markets and investment partners within those markets. Notre Dame’s strategic target to non-U.S. equities is actually greater than its target to U.S. equities. Private equity activity internationally also is accelerating rapidly.
